Priyadarshan is an Indian film director, screenwriter, and producer best known for his work in Malayalam and Hindi. On January 30, 1957, he was born in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India. He is a director and screenwriter best known for his work on Oppam, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, and Kanchivaram.
Over the course of his three-decade career, he has directed more than 95 films in various Indian languages, primarily Malayalam and Hindi, but also six films in Tamil and two in Telugu. Despite beginning his career in Malayalam films, he is most known in Bollywood for his comedic films. He is a remarkably versatile director who has worked in practically every genre.
When his friend Mohanlal got into filmmaking, he received his first major break as an assistant director. In 1984, he directed his first film, which was an instant success. Throughout his career, he appeared in numerous films in a variety of languages. In 2008, he received a Special Honor Jury Award for his contributions to Indian cinema. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 2012 for his contributions to the arts. His films have received numerous nominations and awards.
