Mel Gibson is one of the most popular actors in the Hollywood industry. He was born on 3 January 1956 in Peekskill, New York. His full name is Mel Columcille Gerard Gibson. Mel was the sixth of eleven children of his parents, Anne Patricia and Hutton Gibson. He was born in America however he is an Australian actor. When he was 12 years old, his family moved to Australia. In the year 1974, he enrolled himself in the National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney. While at school he made his debut film Summer City (1977). He played the role of surfer. After graduating in 1977, he joined the State Theatre Company of South Australia. Mel became an international sensation actor with a series of action-adventure films in the 1980s. Later, he earned acclaim as a director and producer. Films like Tim (1979), Gallipoli. Mad Max trilogy, Lethal Weapon, The Year of Living Dangerously (1982), and Hamlet (1990) were stepping stones in Mel’s successful acting career.
His directorial debut was through the film The Man Without a Face in 1993. In 1995, Mel directed Braveheart. He portrayed the Scottish national hero, Sir William Wallace. This iconic film won five Academy Awards. It even won the best picture and best director award. After directing such successful films, he directed The Passion of the Christ in 2004. The film was an account of the last 12 hours of Jesus Christ’s life. Primarily, it was based on the biblical Gospels. Even though the film was a success, many felt that it was historically inaccurate and ruthlessly violent. However, 2 years later, Apocalypto was released. The film was directed by Gibson. It was set during the collapse of the Mayan empire.
