Maharashtra Records 103 Delta Plus Cases

According to the Maharashtra health department, the number of Delta Plus cases of the highly transmissible coronavirus has grown to 103 after 27 new infections were detected in the state. Six new Delta Plus cases were discovered in Gadchiroli and Amravati, five in Nagpur, four in Ahmednagar, three in Yavatmal, two in Nashik, and one in Bhandara, according to the department.

The Delta variety, which, according to the Union health ministry, fueled the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic in India, has been found in 128 swab samples in Mumbai, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

According to the BMC, the Delta version of the coronavirus was discovered in 128 of 188 samples sent for genome sequencing at one of its facilities. Two samples were positive for the Alpha variation, 24 for the Kappa variant, and the remainder were of various Covid-19 strains, according to the report.

The BMC has opened a new genome sequencing facility at the Kasturba Hospital in Chinchpokli, which is administered by the city. At this facility, which was launched by chief minister Uddhav Thackeray on August 4, the civic body tested the first batch of samples. An American organization gave two genome-sequencing machines to the civic body, according to the statement. It said that at least 384 samples can be analyzed at a time at the genome sequencing lab, with findings available in four days.

On Monday, Maharashtra registered 3,643 new cases of Covid-19, bringing the total number of cases in the state to 6,428,294. There were 225 new Covid-19 cases in Mumbai this week, including four deaths, bringing the city’s death toll to 15,951. So far, 136,067 people have died in Maharashtra, and there are presently 49,924 active Covid-19 cases.
