Lupin: Release Date, Cast, Plot And All The Things You Need To Know

Lupin is an upcoming television series based on the French detective novels about a gentleman thief named Arsene Lupin by Maurice Leblanc at the beginning of the 20th century. As the grandfather of the main character of the long-running animated series Lupin III, as well as one of the Personas in Persona 5, Maurice Leblanc’s gentleman thief Arsène Lupin has taken on several variations over the years. Netflix also gets in the game. The new season, produced by George Kay and François Uzan, stars Omar Sy as Assane Diop, a man who encounters a mysterious gift, a book about Arsène Lupin, judging by the trailer, which he says gives him riches and money and many lives to spend. That detail gives the series a mystical tint along with a few visual flourishes that suggest a little jumping through time, although we’ll have to wait to see how weird the series becomes.

In 1905, a character called Arsène Lupin was developed by the French writer Maurice Leblanc, who represents one of my favorite archetypes in all storytelling: the gentleman thief. The suave, crafty Lupin has appeared over the years in many short stories, novels, comics, and movies since his creation, and has even inspired a grandson character, Lupin III, who was the subject of the feature directorial debut of acclaimed animation director Hayao Miyazaki and more recently a new CG animated film called Lupin III The First.
