The Jagannath Temple in Puri, Odisha, will reopen to all devotees on Monday after being closed for nearly four months due to Covid restrictions, with the administration progressively allowing visitors to access the temple. In the first phase, the Jagannath temple reopened on August 12, although only family members of the servants were permitted inside. On August 16, the management permitted Puri residents to visit the shrine in the second phase of the reopening.
All worshippers will be able to enter the shrine from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, according to the state government’s standard operating procedure (SOP). The temple will be closed on weekends to allow employees to clean the premises, and the government will also close the temple during big festivals to reduce crowds.
Visitors to the Jagannath Temple will be asked to show a certificate of full immunization status or a 96-hour-old negative Covid test report. They must also possess a government-issued identification card, such as Aadhaar.
