Srirangam is the place where this Ramanujar Temple is situated and occupies the pride for immaculate Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi in a towering temple known as Ramanujar Temple. The temple is also known as AdiKesava Temple. For 8 long years daily, 200 workers toiled day and night to construct this beautiful temple tower. The temple is 36 feet high and has 13 tiers.
The Ramanujar temple is the tallest temple in the world. The temple is considered to be a modern-day marvel and has been graced by millions of tourists since its inception. The Dravidian-style architecture of this temple has attracted millions of tourists. The temple is dedicated to Ramanuja, who was a Hindu philosopher and theologian. The Ramanujar Temple’s hall is gold plated, and the poojas are offered from 6:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. daily. The temple’s architect has drawn the interest of many foreign tourists, and the word-of-mouth publicity has brought them numbers here.
Like many other temples, many festivals are celebrated in this temple. The festive season starts from ChitiraiBrahmotsavam, MasiPooram festival, which is celebrated every February & March. Post that, the PanguniUthiram festival is celebrated in March & April, and this festival is the most prominent festival of this temple. During ChittiraiBrahmotsavam, the temple hosts the famous car housing the festival deities of YathirajaNathaValli & Adikesava is drawn in & around the streets of Sriperumbudur.
The car festival was not operational for almost 25 years before 2003 as it finally resumed again in 2003. This festival is followed by the last festival of the year ThiruavadaraUtsavam of Ramanuja, which is the birth anniversary of the saint Ramanuj. The celebrations are an added attraction as tourists visit this temple all year round and are arguably one of the best architects that you will find on earth.
