Mason is a private investigator in 1931 Los Angeles during the Great Depression before becoming the famed criminal defense attorney in the 1957 series. Kirk portrays Assistant DA Hamilton Burger, who’s called being Perry Mason’s rival but works with Mason on a murder case during the first season.
