Google is making big strides in the silicon industry as well, and with the Tensor chipset finally arriving in Pixel 6. They recently launched the Pixel 5A, the latest offering in the budget Pixel A series line-up and I am quite confused about their decision to launch a new Pixel device with identical specifications and very tiny and barely noticeable upgrades. That being said, this will be the last device in the google smartphone lineup to use a Qualcomm or any third-party processor. Next-generation smartphones will be all about Tensor processors.
Google Pixel 5a 5G specifications
Google Pixel 5a retains the storage from its predecessor and comes with a single 6GB RAM and 128 GB Storage configuration and a Snapdragon 765 processor. No other storage options are there as the ‘A’ series is all about affordability and a balanced configuration. The display is slightly bigger than the previous version and measures 6.34 inches in size. It bears an FHD resolution of 1080 by 2400 pixels that are fit for streaming content on the go. The aspect ratio and the pixel density remain identical too. Also, it is a basic 60 Hz display as compared to the much more fluid 90 Hz refresh rate display that is present in cheaper options like the One Plus Nord 2 5G.
The battery receives a significant upgrade as the Google Pixel 5a now comes with a 4680 mAh battery that will last way beyond your average Android smartphone. No brand can beat the optimization that Google Pixel devices come with and are the least power-hungry smartphones ever. Comparing it to the previous smartphone in the ‘A’ series, it is a drastic jump in the battery life. The smartphone doesn’t support wireless charging which could have been a unique feature for a moderately priced smartphone of 2021. You get a USB Type-C cable with an 18 W charger, which isn’t crazy fast like the OnePlus or Xiaomi but doesn’t harm the battery life.

The smartphone also retains the 3.5 mm headphone jack and comes with a Gorilla Glass 6 protection for the display. So, scratches aren’t an issue unless you manually scrape off the display. It even has an ip67 waterproof rating that helps you to be a little less concerned about the device’s safety around dust and liquid.
Google Pixel 5a Pricing And More
Google Pixel 5a will launch in two countries only, namely the US and Japan. The phone will go on sale in these two countries from 24 August onwards and is priced at 449 USD, which is even cheaper than the Google Pixel 4a. Google doesn’t seem to be interested in releasing the smartphone in the Indian market as neither the Google Pixel 4a nor Google Pixel 5 came to the country. The Google Pixel 5a does support 3 years of Google security and OS upgrades, so you don’t face any usability issues down the line.
