His Life and Career

General Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, ADC is an Indian politician. He was born on 10th May 1951( Present Age: 70 years old) in Pune, Maharashtra. His parents are Jagat Singh and Krishna Kumari. At that time, Captain Jagat Singh was an officer serving in the 14th battalion The Rajput Regiment of the Indian Army. Soon after his birth, V.K Singh’s mother Krishna Kumari became terminally ill. She passed away due to cancer in the year 1952. He was raised by his maternal grandparents. Soon after, he joined Birla Public School which is a boarding school in Pilani, Rajasthan. During his schooling, he was a part of the National Cadet Corps and served in all three wings. 

In 1966, he entered NDA after qualifying for the entrance exam. Post that, he entered the Indian Military Academy (IMA) in June 1969. He was assigned to the ‘Cassino’ Company at the academy. V.K Singh was appointed senior under officer (SUO) in his fourth term.

He has served in the Indian Army and retired as a four-star General. From May 26, 2014, Vijay Kumar has worked as the Minister of State for External Affairs in the NDA-led Government BJP. Also, he briefly served as the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of the North-Eastern Region in the Government.

From 2010 to 2012, Singh was the 24th Chief of the Army Staff. During his career in the military, he became the first serving Indian military Chief of Staff to take the Government of India to court. Vijay Singh took to the court concerning a dispute over his date of birth and subsequent retirement.

Family Life and Interests

V.K Singh is married to Bharti Singh. The couple has two daughters, Yojna Singh and Mrinali Singh. Yojna is married to Dr. Anirudh Singh who is the son of Lt. Gen. Ashok Singh. Alongside his career, V.K Singh is interested in sports, horse riding, and reading. He has authored an autobiography, Courage, and Conviction. It covers his career and experience in the Indian Army.

As he hails from a family with a military background, he is expressive of his opinions about topics like nationalism. Therefore, he is also quite vocal on topics of social issues and national importance.
