New Delhi: Massive landslides continue to wreak havoc in Himachal Pradesh after floods, rains. In the last 24 hours, 19 people have died in the state while 9 people have been injured. And six people are said to be missing. It is feared that the missing people have also died, although this has not been confirmed. The State Disaster Management Authority has confirmed the death of 19 people.

Chakki bridge in Kangra district collapsed on Saturday due to incessant rains in the state. Confirming the incident, ADM of Kangra, Rohit Rathore wrote that the chakki bridge in Kangra district collapsed today. Besides, flash floods broke out in the state’s Mandi district in the early hours of this morning, causing water to enter houses and shops, leaving residents trapped and causing damage to vehicles parked on the road.

A bulletin of the Himachal Pradesh-State Emergency Response Support System said that normal life was severely affected due to rain in Balh, Sadar, Thunag, Mandi and Lamathach in the district. In view of the incessant rain in Mandi for the last two days and the forecast of heavy rains in the next 24 hours, it has been decided that all government and private educational institutions, except colleges and ITIs in Mandi district, will remain closed on August 20.

Meteorological Department issued a warning

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rain at isolated places over Kangra, Chamba, Bilaspur, Sirmaur and Mandi districts in Himachal Pradesh today. Locals and tourists have been advised to avoid going near rivers and streams in bad weather. The Disaster Management Department of Himachal Pradesh has issued a landslide warning due to the forecast of heavy rains in the state till August 25.
