First Asian Woman: Michelle Yeoh-Won Best Actress at Oscars

Michelle Yeoh was the first Asian woman to win the Best Actress award at the 95th Academy Awards this Sunday. The Malaysian Actress earned the award with her renowned performance in, “Everything Everywhere All At Once.” She has made history with her promising acts in various movies such as Hong Kong, Evelyn Wang, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and many more award-winning films. Yeoh’s award for Best Actress was one of the seven Awards grabbed by, “Everything Everywhere All At Once.” The Movie also won several awards such as-Best Director, Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Supporting Actress.

Michelle Yeoh starred as a Chinese immigrant in the sci-fi comedy Everything Everywhere At Once. In the film, she is the frontrunner. Michelle Yeoh is the 5th Asian to win an acting Academy Award and has become the 1st Asian woman to win the Best Actress Award. She dedicated her award to her mother. Stating the power of motherhood and mentioning all mothers in this world as superheroes. As a 22-year-old, Malaysian-born Yeoh saw her future in Hong Kong’s storied film industry. Accidents had hampered her hopes of becoming a ballet dancer, as well as her study at London’s Royal Academy of Dancing, but Yeoh had gone on to win Miss Malaysia in 1983. After this, she changed her career and started working in the film industry.

In her winning: Malaysia’s prime minister Anwar Ibrahim tweeted his congrats, adding the country takes “enormous pride in her achievement”. Hong Kong’s culture secretary Kevin Yeung released a statement calling Yeoh’s achievement “well-deserved.”
