Making of the King Khan

Shah Rukh Khan’s name literally means the ‘Face of the King’. Born in New Delhi on 2 November 1965 to Mir Taj Muhammad Khan and Lateef Fatima. Shah Rukh Khan or popularly known as SRK was born and brought up in Delhi. Since childhood, he has been an all-rounder student. He was even awarded the prestigious ‘Sword of Honor’ at his school, St. Columbas.  He was very active in sports activities. So much so, that he was the captain of the hockey, cricket, and football team all at once. Only when he sustained an injury while playing football, he began considering acting as a career. He pursued a degree in Economic honors from Hansraj College, University of Delhi. He completed his master’s degree in mass communication from Jamia Milia Islamia.

Shah Rukh married Gauri Khan on 25th October 1991. They have 3 children, 2 sons, and a daughter. His oldest son’s name is Aryan Khan and his youngest son’s name is Abram Khan. Suhana Khan is his daughter. Shah Rukh is a complete family man. His height is approximately 5 feet 6 inches. He resides in his mansion ‘Mannat’ in Mumbai with his family.

Beginning of an Era

After completing his education, he joined Delhi’s Theatre Action Group (TAG). Under the mentorship of Mr. Barry John, he studied theatre. He credits Barry for giving him his acting career and owes his learnings to him. Shah Rukh Khan began his acting career with Fauji in 1988. He landed the role of the lead commando in his first film. Instantly, he became a sensation among young girls when he was also featured in the TV series ‘Circus‘ and ‘Dil Dariya‘ in  1989.

King Khan made his Bollywood debut in 1992 with the movie ‘Deewana’. In this romantic drama, he played the role of a supporting actor. He won the Filmfare Best Actor Debut Male award for this role. In subsequent years, he played many villainous roles in ‘Darr‘ and ‘Baazigar’. These movies proved to be the stepping stones in his acting career.  Shah Rukh rose to fame and gained lots of popularity in the industry. In the late 1990s, Khan starred opposite Kajol in ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’  (DDLJ). This movie became the longest-running Bollywood movie in theatres. Shah Rukh’s character Raj still resides in the heart of every Indian girl to date. DDLJ is India’s biggest blockbuster movie and is truly remarkable in every sense, from romance to comedy, or thriller to action.

He made a name for himself in romantic roles and played opposite Madhuri Dixit in ‘Dil To Pagal hai‘ in 1997, Kajol in ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ (1998) and ‘Kabhie Khushi Kabhie Gam’ in 2001. The most iconic role he played was of Devdas, a depressed lover in 2002. This movie gathered him with a lot of appraising and he came to be considered as the most romantic hero of Bollywood.

He has a record number of Best Actor trophies to his name. He is the co-owner of two production houses namely ‘Red Chillies Entertainment and ‘Dreamz Unlimited. He is not only a successful actor but an impressionable producer in the Hindi Film Industry.
