Martin Freeman doubted Black Panther 2 would Happen after Chadwick Boseman Expired. The original Black Panther film earned widespread critical praise and shattered box office records when it premiered in 2018, and Marvel wasted no time putting together the highly-expected sequel. However, the dialogue around Black Panther 2 is quite different now, after Boseman’s death last August. Those involved with the franchise think Black Panther 2 has a duty to honour Boseman and his legacy. The movie is scheduled to come out in May 2022.
Since Boseman surfaced as T’Challa in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, he’s been synonymous with the function. Because of this, the idea of making a new Black Panther movie without him is difficult to comprehend, and several are interested to understand how the movie turns out. That includes the MCU’s Everett K. Ross actor Freeman, who for a time figured Black Panther 2 wouldn’t occur in any way.
Freeman discussed Black Panther 2 and opened up about his thoughts after Boseman’s death. See his comments below:

“Just before Chadwick died, if my memory serves correctly, the script had gone in. They had the script and they were working on the script, and then Chadwick died, and [I] sort of immediately thought, ‘Oh, okay, I could see a world where there’s no Black Panther then, because how can you do a Black Panther without Black Panther?’ So, I still don’t know what that’s going to look like. And no, obviously, before Chad died, the idea of doing it without him would have been a stupid idea. It would have been crazy. It was very shocking, and still is very, very strange, that he is not here. So, I’m as curious as you are to see what that will look like and I find out quite soon. All I know is that I’m in it.”
Black Panther’s 2 plot details are being kept under wraps, but it has been confirmed Marvel is not recasting T’Challa and won’t use CGI to recreate Boseman’s likeness. In the comics, the Black Panther is a mantle assumed by various folks, therefore a common belief is that the movies will follow suit. It’s possible Shuri, T’Challa’s sister, becomes the next Black Panther onscreen, which might be a poignant way to commemorate both Boseman and the personality he brilliantly portrayed. That idea has gained support amongst viewers, as evidenced by the enthusiast art of Shuri in the iconic Black Panther costume. Whatever occurs, it certainly isn’t something that the creative team is shooting lightly. Star Lupita Nyong’o lately said manager Ryan Coogler has some fascinating ideas for Black Panther two, so hopefully that the gifted helmsman can craft something strong.
Since Freeman alludes to, Black Panther 2 is gearing up to movie soon, with June being the target for production. The plan for this particular movie could become clearer around that time. Marvel is known for their secrecy, but this is a case where it could be logical to be more transparent. Perhaps when principal photography starts, Marvel could release a statement shedding some light about the Dark Panther two narrative and how the film plans to honour Boseman, as this is a really sensitive subject several are curious to find out about. Instead of having it be the topic of speculation in the year leading up to the film’s premiere, Marvel could get in front of this dialogue by creating a formal confirmation.
