Edge Of Tomorrow 2: Release Date, Cast, Plot And All You Need To Know

There are speculations that the 2014 American sci-fi ‘Edge of tomorrow’ (marketed as Live Die Repeat: Edge of Tomorrow) will soon drop its sequel. Based on a 2004 Japanese light novel “All You Need Is Kill” by Hiroshi Sakurazaka, the movie is directed by Doug Liman and distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures. Edge of Tomorrow has a decent IMDB rating of 7.9 and has received a great fan following especially because of Tom Cruise as the protagonist.

The Cast

Tom Cruise as Major William Cage and Emily Blunt as Sergeant Rita Vrataski, the “Angel of Verdun” play the lead roles in the film. The cast for the sequel are yet to be revealed.

The Plot

An alien invasion takes place in Europe by a breed of aliens known as the Mimics. Maj. William Cage, an American public relations officer, is asked to take up a suicide mission to kill the aliens. Having no experience in combat cage refuses to do the task, upon which there are orders to arrest him and force him for a fatal encounter with the aliens. Cage reluctantly enters the battlefield kills an Alpha but dies within minutes. As soon as he dies he wakes up at the Heathrow base and relives the same day where he battles with the aliens and dies again and again, but each time he fights he gets better with his combat skills. Cage meets Rita Vrataski and realizes that the blood of the Alpha he killed has given him the ability to reset time. The main aim of Rita and Cage currently is to kill Omega the leader of the Mimics.

In the end, Rita and Cage reach omega but they have to fight their way through an Alpha for which Rita sacrifices herself to distract it. Cage gets brutally injured by the Alpha but somehow manages to throw grenades at Omega killing him. His blood splatters on Cage. All of a sudden, cage wakes up at the time he was about to get arrested and so does Rita next to him. Cage smiles at Rita but it is highly unlikely that she remembers him as it was his time reset. This shows that the two have a future and this can add to the lot of the second installment of the film.

The Release Date

There is no official release date as of now but there was an Instagram post by the director Doug Liman on January 2020 which implied that planning and scriptwriting for the sequel is on. Fans might have to wait a little more as the pandemic situation seems to be delaying all major projects as of now.
