Koyoharu Gotouge’s hit manga series Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba may have come to a close, but the animated series continues picking up steam using another season releasing in 2021. The Demon Slayer anime was a runaway hit in Japan and overseas, including a type and relatable protagonist at Tanjiro Kamado and his quest to rescue his Demon sister, Nezuko.
Season 1 left off with all the promise of far more experience and electrifying dream battle scenes, top right into that the Demon Slayer: Mugen Train film. Fans will need to see the movie as its canonical story has some substantial ramifications, and Season 2 will pick up right after the movie’s events.
Tanjiro Kamado lived a normal life in the mountains until a Demon slaughtered his household and turned on his beloved little sister Nezuko to a Demon herself. Could she be saved? Tanjiro is decided to learn, which usually means getting hellish training to become a Demon Slayer – an elite swordsman – and understanding of their strong Breathing Styles across the way. After over two years in training, getting a fully-fledged Demon Slayer, Tanjiro quickly understood that more people than Nezuko needed his aid.
The King of Demons – Muzan Kibutsuji – skulks via a rapidly-modernizing Japan, steadily recruiting more Demons to his mortal cause. Since the one responsible for Nezuko’s inhuman country, the kind-hearted Tanjiro will not forgive him. In the meantime, Tanjiro builds up his team, making friends with the Thunder Breath user Zenitsu Agatsuma and the boar-headed Inosuke Hashibira.
Tanjiro has more issues than the real Demons, however, as that the Hashira – the ultimate Demon Slayers – initially reject Tanjiro’s pursuit and need Nezuko to be murdered. But she demonstrates that she is not a flesh-hungry monster also still has a kernel of humanity left. Now, Shinobu Kocho – the Insect Hashira – and her fellows train Tanjiro, Zenitsu and Inosuke to the hard road ahead.
The Flame Hashira, Kyojuro Rengoku, is ready to bring Tanjiro’s party along for a new quest, which leads into Mugen Train and Season 2. In a weird alternate dimension that would make M. C. Escher shout, Muzan lashes out and slaughters most of the six diminished Moons – the lower-ranked Demons in Muzan’s 12 Moon forces – in reality, preparing both Upper Moons for action. It’s time for Muzan to bring out his very best chess pieces against Tanjiro along with the Demon Slayer Corps, together with Rui and Kyogai being a mere warmup for what’s to come.
A teaser trailer for Season 2 was released, depicting the Yoshiwara Red-Light District since Tanjiro’s team storms the place to discover and destroy all Demons in the area. Mysterious, robed women watch since the Demon Slayers get to perform, but based on one woman’s wicked grin, some of them may be the Demons, the ideal disguise. Tanjiro, Zenitsu, Inosuke, Nezuko and Tengen Uzui – that the Audio Hashira – can not afford to let down their guard for a minute.
Demon Slayer Season 2 will release sometime in 2021, and more information is going to be released as it becomes available.
