Covid Active Cases Drops In Maharashtra While Kids Vaccination To Start By March 2022

Covid Live Updates: On Thursday, Maharashtra saw a decrease in the number of active cases, with 57,579 cases. The state reported 58,069 active cases on Wednesday, down from 62,069 on Tuesday. However, with 12,917 current cases, Pune continues to top the way, followed by Thane with 7,020 and Satara with 6,792 active cases.

Maharashtra also reported 5,225 new Covid-19 cases and 154 deaths. The total number of Covids in the state is now 6,411,570, with a toll of 135,567.

State surveillance officer Dr Pradeep Awate said the decreasing numbers indicated the decline of the virus. “Active cases are an indicator of the spread of the virus and these figures show that we have effectively contained the virus,” he said. At its peak, the virus had approximately 600,000 active cases.

Dr Wiqar Shaikh, professor of medicine, Grant Medical College and Sir JJ Hospital, said though active cases have declined, the current situation has still not stabilized. “The manner in which people are getting infected by Delta Plus variant indicates that the third wave is inevitable,” he said.

The Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) of Mizoram reported 522 new Covid-19 cases and two deaths in the last 24 hours, bringing the positive rate to 6.79 percent. There are 7,624 active Covid-19 cases out of a total of 50,959 cases, 43,145 people who have recovered from the infection, and 190 people who have died as a result of Covid-19.

According to official sources, the government is unlikely to begin immunization of children against Covid-19 until March 2022, despite the fact that three-four vaccinations are expected to be approved for the Under-18 age group by December. By the end of August, Zydus Cadila’s Covid-19 vaccine, ZyCoV-D, is projected to receive an emergency use authorization for the 12-18 cohort, while Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin — the world’s only vaccine being studied for use in the 2-18 year age bracket — is also expected to receive approval by September.
