India added 35,342 new cases of the coronavirus in the last 24 hours. With this, the country’s overall caseload to around 3.12 crore. The recovery rate is at 97.36 percent. The country has reported over 4.19 lakh fatalities so far, the health ministry said.
However, Kerala still remains the biggest contributor where 12,818 more people tested positive for the illness while Maharashtra contributed 7,302 new cases, the second-highest nationwide. India’s test positivity rate (positive cases identified for every 100 tests) continued to show a decline. For the 32 straight days Thursday, it remained below the 5 per cent-mark at 2.12 percent.
Over 54 lakh vaccine doses were administered in the last 24 hours. The total number of doses administered in the country has exceeded 42.34 crores. Also, 16,68,561 tests to detect the infection were carried out on Thursday, taking the total number of such tests conducted so far in the country to 45,29,39,545.
After a two-day rise, active cases started to decline on Thursday. According to the Union Health Ministry’s latest update, the country has a total of about 4.05 lakh active cases at present. Around 1.29 lakh of these were in Kerala while Maharashtra had over 94,000. While the daily positivity rate was recorded at 2.12 percent, the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 97.36 percent, the ministry’s data updated at 8 am showed.
The study might help inform vaccination strategies against the Delta variant, which reduces the effectiveness of a first dose of the vaccine even though two doses are still found to be protective.
