Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion (also called Kōdo Giasu: Hangyaku no more Rurūshu in Japanese) is a Japanese experience anime show based on a manga series of the same title. Written by Gorou Taniguchi and Ichiro Okouchi, also illustrated by Majiko!, the manga series was published on August 24, 2006, with the final volume being published on February 24, 2010. Back in 2006 itself, the manga series was picked up to be made into an anime series, and Season 1 of Code Geass premiered on October 6, 2006. It was a hit among fans of the manga and new audiences alike and was revived quickly for another season. Season two, then, premiered on April 6, 2008, and since then fans of the show have been waiting to hear information about another season. Here’s everything we know about the prospects of Season 3 thus far.
Code Geass season 2 premiered on April 6, 2008, and finished broadcasting on September 28, 2008. Due to the prevalence of the show, fans had been demanding the third season, and their wishes were partially fulfilled once an anime film, branded Code Geass: Lelouch of the Resurrection, was released on February 9, 2019.
However, as much as the possibility of a whole new season of Code Geass is concerned, odds are against the series. Anime shows are generally renewed within a span of five years. Taking into consideration the fact that more than a decade has passed since the premiere of Season two, also there’s been no news on Season 3 of the show, it does not appear likely that a third season will be made. That having been said, the show has officially been cancelled yet, therefore there is an extremely slim possibility that someone might take up the responsibility of making a new year. Our best guess is that in the unlikely scenario of the anime getting revived, Code Geass season 3 launch date could be some time at 2021 or 2022. We will update this section as soon as we hear more.
If you like watching anime displays in English, then Code Geass has a pretty great English dub done by talented voice actors. If you want to see the show in English, you can find dubbed episodes on Funimation, Crunchyroll, Netflix, AnimeLab, and Amazon Prime.
Code Geass is put in another universe where the world is divided into three superpowers — the Holy Britannian Empire (the Americas; also known as Britannia), the Chinese Federation (Asia), and the European Union (Europe and Africa). In this backdrop, the show starts off in 2010, when the Holy Britannian Empire invades Japan in the Chinese Federation using giant robotic weapons called Knightmare Frames. Caught off-guard, the defenders have no way to defend against the onslaught and Japan drops rapidly in front of the forces of the Holy Britannian Empire. Following the conquest of Japan, the Holy Britannian Empire christens the location as Area 11, and also the inhabitants of Area 11 are also known as an episode.
Within this background, the show follows a boy called Lelouch vi Britannia, who’s the youngest son of the Britannian Emperor Charles Zi Britannia and his royal consort Marianne vi Britannia. When Lelouch was a young child, Marianne was brutally murdered, and Lelouch’s sister, Nunnally vi Britannia witnessed the murder, and the injury resulted in her losing her vision and her ability to walk. Despite this injury, Lelouch and his sister had been sent to Japan from the Britannian emperor as political envoys, to give the Japanese a false sense of safety while the Holy Britannian Empire ready for its invasion.
Neither Lelouch nor his sister was conscious of the father’s aims, and if the Holy Britannian Empire attacks and conquers Japan, Lelouch, who was already furious with his dad for not pursuing Marianne’s killer, is completely enraged. With Japan burning, Lelouch thus creates a promise to his Japanese friend, Suzaku Kururugi, to a single day obliterate the Holy Britannian Empire and free Japan and the world from its tyrannical clutches.
After Lelouch makes his guarantee, seven years pass and he grows into a young man who goes by the name Lelouch Lamperouge. Despite being a popular and brilliant student in the Ashford Academy, Lelouch is largely withdrawn and looks-obsessed with resisting the Britannian rule. He finally leaps of faith and participates in a terrorist attack against the Britannian government in Japan. During the attack, he discovers a mysterious girl called C.C. or C2, who saves his life from the Royal Britannian Guard, also grants him a very strong ability named Geass. Also called the”Power of Kings”, Geass empowers Lelouch to command anyone to do whatever he wants — with the power, Lelouch can also manipulate people’s will to live, fight, or perish.
With this monumental power, Lelouch decides to make good on his own promise to Suzaku and becomes determined to find his mother’s murderers and reduce the Holy Britannian Empire to ash. He takes on the identity of Zero and becomes a masked vigilante and the leader of a resistance movement known as the Black Knights. Soon, the opposition movement begins to disperse, and Lelouch wins the confidence and support of those Japanese men and women who had been languishing under the Britannian rule. With assistance from the Japanese people, Lelouch thus sets the wheels in motion to start a rebellion against the Holy Britannian Empire. Rebellion, clearly, does not come easy, and Lelouch is forced to make extremely tough decisions, which includes battling his buddy Suzaku, his very own half-siblings, and the strongest army on the planet.
Code Geass has tons of characters, however, there are just four main characters from the series. Below, we have given you a brief background of each of those characters.

When he reunites with Lelouch afterward, Suzaku admits that the Britannian empire isn’t worth serving. But when Lelouch’s rebellion results in the death of their love of his life, Suzaku promises to kill Lelouch. In the last episode of Season 2, Lelouch asks Suzaku to kill him and take on the identity of Zero. Suzaku indulges, also kills Lelouch in front of all the Black Knights and Nunnally, also carries on Zero’s individuality, continuing the struggle against the Britannian empire.
