“There’ll be only one T’Challa,” said Marvel studio supervisors since they officially declared the overdue Chadwick Boseman’s pioneering role in black Panther’ will not be recast in the upcoming sequel.
The studio announced through their social media handles, the remarkable lineup of movies set to roll in the new phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe along with the addition of digital series.
Boseman passed away in August after a secret four-year struggle with colon cancer. Since his cancer diagnosis and treatment was never made public, rumors were rife that his departure would put the future of this superhero film into uncertainty.
“His portrayal of T’Challa the Black Panther is iconic and transcends any iteration of the personality in any other medium in Marvel’s past — and it’s for that reason that we will not recast the character,” Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said in a statement.
But a projected sequel to the 2018 smash hit – which saw Boseman play the first black superhero to get his very own standalone film in the franchise – will probably still go ahead using”all of the varied and rich characters introduced in the first movie.”
“To honor the heritage that Chad helped us build through his portrayal of the king of Wakanda, we want to continue to learn more about the universe of Wakanda,” with coming director Ryan Coogler” hard at work on the sequel today,” additional Feige.
The first black Panther’, set in the fictional African kingdom of Wakanda, was adored by critics and audiences, getting the very first comic book movie to be nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars. It also fetches around $1 billion globally.
The movie is due in theaters in July 2022.
At a packed demonstration covering over 20 upcoming Marvel films and series, Feige announced that a new fantastic Four’ movie will be directed by Jon Watts, who helped reinvigorate the spider-Man’ movies.
Disney acquired the film rights to the Fantastic Four characters using its current takeover of this rival Fox film studio, that had generated a 2015 flop depending on the comic books.
