Ben Affleck is an American Actor, Film Director, Screen writer and Producer. He is known for playing comic and dramatic roles. And more generally popular as an Screen writer, Director and Producer. His big break came with a role in the Academy Award-winning Good Will Hunting, which he co-wrote with his childhood friend Matt Damon. In 1998, he starred in the successful blockbuster Armageddon and landed a part in the Academy Award-winning film Shakespeare in Love.

Biography

He was born on August 15 1972 in Berkeley, California U.S. His parents separated soon after he was born, and officially divorced when he was 11. After the split, Affleck and his siblings moved to Cambridge, Massachusetts. Affleck’s first acting experience came at the age of seven when he appeared in The Dark End of the Street (1979), an independent film produced by a friend of the family. At the age of eight, Affleck was featured in the TV production, The Voyage of the Mimi. That same year he met his future best friend, Matt Damon , a 10-year-old who lived two blocks away. The boys later attended the Cambridge Rindge and Latin School, where they both took drama classes. While still in high school, Affleck appeared in several network TV dramas.

Career

Affleck grew up in Cambridge, Massachusetts , where he formed a lasting friendship with his neighbor Matt Damon  Affleck’s first role was in a Burger King  commercial, and in 1984 he appeared in the Public Broadcasting Service’s miniseries The Voyage of the Mimi. He continued acting as a teenager in the TV movie Hands of a Stranger (1987) and in The Second Voyage of the Mimi (1988). Affleck briefly attended both the University of Vermont and Occidental College  but left before graduating, to focus on acting. During his early career his height and stature often got him cast as a bully, and he played minor characters in independent films such as the cult hits Dazed And Confused (1993) and Kevin Smith’s Mallrats (1995).

Smith was impressed by Affleck and cast him as the lead in his next film, Chasing Amy (1997). Affleck had one of his biggest successes in front of and behind the camera with the 2012 release of Argo, a film about former CIA operative Tony Mendez, who led six American citizens to safety during the Iran hostage crisis in 1979. Affleck directed, co-produced and acted in the film, playing Mendez. Argo earned Affleck a Golden Globe Award for best director. The film also won a Golden Globe for Best Picture in the drama category and the 2013 Academy Award for Best Picture. Argo was nominated for Academy Awards in six other categories, including Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Actor in a supporting role for Alan Arkin.
