Asus will bring back 3.5mm headphone jack in their ROG 5 Phone

Finally, we’ve got an official launch date for another gaming smartphone from ASUS, the ROG Phone 5. A whole lot of specifications and features have leaked online, but now we can affirm that ASUS will soon be bringing the 3.5millimeter audio jack over the upcoming smartphone.

This is notable because its predecessor (the ROG Phone 3) ditched the legacy interface that meant users had to rely on a USB-C dongle (or even the AeroActive Cooler attachment) to plug in wired headphones. An early sound inspection by DxOMark says the ROG Phone 5 will probably soon be coming with a 3.5millimeter jack using a DAC (digital-to-analogue converter) by ESS.

The review also confirms the smartphone will continue to include a dual-front-facing speaker setup. The handset was rated as one of the best when it comes to audio functionality with consistent results’ and category-leading sub-scores in both Playback and Recording.

According to the test scores, the ROG phone 5 offers better sound than the Mi 10pro and overtakes the former winner, the ROG Phone 3. ASUS will be officially starting the ROG Phone 5 on March 10, at 7 PM Taiwan time. The smartphone is expected to feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor, up to 16GB of RAM, a similar 6,000mAh battery as its predecessor, a 6.78-inch OLED screen, along a triple-camera setup at the rear.

The smartphone can be anticipated to substitute the ROG emblem with RGB backlighting with a dot-matrix setup as seen in a few of the leaked pictures and the official media render shared by DxOMark. There’s also a small secondary display on the back which could be utilized for showing things like alarms for matches and other notifications.

All in all, the design and looks of the new handset may be similar to previous-gen versions such as a glass body using a typical display with no notches or hole punch cutouts.
