Andhra Train Accident: A Synopsis

A major train collision happened in Andhra Pradesh on 29th October. Months after the deadly Balasore train accident this follows the second in the year. Howrah-Chennai line on Vizianagaram district was the place where the incident took place.14 people died and 50 people have been injured. PM Narendra Modi and W.B CM Mamta Banerjee questioned all the responsible officers. The accident revives the fear of Balasore incident throughout the nation. Victims were provided with medical support arranged on emergency basis .

Details about the  accident

Two trains collided with each other in Andhra Pradesh’s Vizianagaram district at 7 pm on Sunday and almost three coaches derailed when the Palasa passenger train hit the Rayagada passenger train. The incident took place at Kantakpalli which is almost 40 kms far away from Visakhapatnam and Vizianagaram Superintendent of Police M Deepika could identify seven bodies so far. Visakhapatnam and Vizianagaram are the places where the injured have taken for treatment. The reason which led to the collision was a passenger train overshoot the signal.
The divisional railway manager of Waltair division Saurabh Prasad stated the reason behind the collision. The copilot of Visakhapatnam-Rayagada train overshoot the signal and hit the Visakhapatnam-Palasa train which was heading on the same track. The incident led to the cancellation of 33 trains. Kavach system was missing  between the Andhra trains.

Support for Andhra train accident victims

PM Modi granted ₹2 lakh to the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured from the PM’s National Relief Fund. Along with that ₹2 Lakh towards grievous, and ₹50,000 for minor injuries. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy instructed officials to pay compensation. He announced ₹10 lakh each to the kin of the deceased and ₹2 lakh each to the injured from the state of Andhra train accident.
