Motorola has been dabbling between the premium and budget segment of smartphones for quite some time. Last year they launched Moto Edge Plus and then a more affordable and stripped-down version of their premium smartphone. Now, the Moto Edge 2021 was announced by the brand yesterday that elaborated on the internals as well as the improvements that were done to the new smartphone. The focus areas of Moto Edge 2021 remain camera and display, both of which have received a much-needed upgrade in the latest version.
Moto Edge 2021 Specifications
The most noticeable downgrade appears to be the processor as the last year’s model used a Snapdragon 865 processor while the latest one uses a Snapdragon 778G processor. It doesn’t pack as much performance as the previous one but supports 5G and Wi-Fi 6E, which is a must-have in 2021. The storage and RAM configuration maxes at 8GB RAM+ 256GB Storage configuration. There is no mention of memory expansion, a feature that was prominent in almost all Motorola smartphones. The processor isn’t inadequate as it is a mid-range Snapdragon processor but considering the last iteration, it appears as a step-down.
The Moto Edge display is the main highlight of Motorola Edge 2021 as it packs a nearly 7-inch display (6.8 inches) which makes the smartphone obnoxiously tall. It supports a fast refresh rate of 144 Hz and comes with support for HDR 10 content playback. Pushing 144 Hz can be a battery killer on the 1080 pixel display but if you prefer fluidity over battery drain, it won’t be a problem. Motorola Edge 2021 offers a clean Android 11 experience that is devoid of any bloatware whatsoever. It will pack a 5000 mAh battery that can last a day and can be recharged faster using the 30 watts wired charging support. Wireless charging isn’t available but is admissible considering it is a mid-range smartphone.
Moto Edge Camera
Cameras are a major highlight as it packs a new 108-megapixel primary sensor along with its proprietary AI technology to maximize color production and capture as much detail as possible. It is a three-camera module with an ultra-wide and a depth sensor to produce vivid details. The front camera is also a 32-megapixel sensor with support for pixel binning to improve low-light performance. Moto Edge 2021 will be available in the coming month on the 2nd of September.
